Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

PRP is a non-surgical procedure where the doctor will draw a small quantity of your blood and place it in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma from your red cell concentrate. The plasma will then be administered into the scalp via micro-needling or small injections into the area of concern with minimal to no discomfort. Your plasma is rich in not only platelets but growth factors and anti-inflammatory cells that are used to promote follicle health, hair growth and reduce thinning.

How many sessions of PRP will I need?

The number of treatments depends on the condition being treated, during your consultation the Scalp specialist or Doctor will advise on the optimal treatment plan. On average a person will need 4-8 session of PRP to achieve hair restoration.

How often should I do PRP?

It is recommended to do your sessions at a 4-6 week interval for optimal results. Maintenance session is done at a 3-4 month interval depending on your response.

Is PRP painful?

A topical anaesthetic ointment is applied to the area of concern before your PRP session to reduce any discomfort, but some patients do experience minimal discomfort.

How long does it take to see results after my PRP session?

It typically takes 8-12 weeks to see an effect after your PRP session.

Who is a good candidate for PRP?

PRP treatments are ideal for treating thinning hair, alopecia, traction alopecia and dry scalp among other hair concerns. It is also used post-surgery and as maintenance treatments after your FUE transplant.

Is there any downtime with PRP?

On average there is no downtime after your PRP, however, in some cases you may experience a slight sunburn sensation or sensitivity in the area for up to 3 days after your PRP.

Is PRP safe for all hair types?

Yes, PRP is safe to use on African, Asian, Indian and Caucasian hair types.

How long after my hair transplant treatment can I start with PRP?

Ideally PRP (injections) are started 4 weeks after your transplant, this is done to improve healing, stimulate growth, minimize rejection and reduce inflammation. 3-6 PRP treatments are often required after transplant.
